Precision Equipment - the choice of the OEM workshop

Workshop Equipment

Precision Equipment has all but completed its role in the completion of Winger Motor Group’s new concept service centre in Penrose, Auckland.
The process of equipping the new facility with its safety focused hoists and lifts with their flow-assisting features has taken eight weeks, which – according to Cory Nicholls of Precision Equipment – is longer than usual, but attributable to a lockdown period and extensive reworking of building itself.
“The prevailing conditions made this a challenging process for all parties concerned,” he says, “but resulted in a more satisfying than usual conclusion.”
Indeed, the new facility is just what the Winger Motor Group’s operation’s manager, Justin Purkiss, was looking for: a super service centre for the group’s four key brands: Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Subaru and Suzuki, which could also refurbish high end used vehicles.
Precision Equipment has played an integral part of facilitating the fitout and efficiency of the service centre which represents the premium brands with premium – precision – equipment.
Cory and his team suggested the optimal placement for the feature laden hoists and scissor lifts best suited to the centre’s requirements.
“We were impressed with Precision Equipment – and especially Cory’s input – in the conceptual phase,” says Justin. “They gave us all the information we needed to select the right equipment.”
“Fundamental equipment included the SPOA10 two-post lift. These are recognised as the world’s best-selling asymmetrical lift and with good reason,” adds Cory. “The super service centre wanted 20 hoists and with that many in close proximity, the recommendation of the space saving SPOA10 was an easy one.”
Equipped with a laser guidance system, the SPOA10 allows vehicles to be positioned perfectly first time, which minimises any ‘backing and filling’ requirements.
Once the vehicle is in position and the lifting arms with their 3 stage load pads are correctly placed, the vehicle is raised, and a lock light confirms that the hoist is in the safest configuration for technicians to start working on the vehicle.
Cory and his team also installed a pair of DS 35 EX in-ground scissor hoists with 3.5-ton lift capacities – low-profile lifts which meet with Volkswagen OEM approval, among others.
The protective coating of the platforms affords excellent corrosion resistance while the double master-slave hydraulic system ensures operator and vehicle safety, preventing unequal lifting on either side.
As part of presenting a complete care offering for its customers, Wingers now offers a full spectrum tyre service menu from the super centre.
“Precision Equipment gave us an excellent understanding of what was going to be required,” says Justin, “and a visit to their demonstration workshop showed me exactly what equipment was going to best suit our operation and why.”
Cory adds, “Precision Equipment serves an extensive customer base which has come about through our team’s background of working in the industry before working for the industry, so we know what works and what works well.
“We drew from this and Justin’s requirements to provide equipment suited to premiere tyre service centres, recommending a pair of XA10 drive-on wheel alignment scissor lifts.”
These units are rated to 4500kg lifting capacity and feature a 4800mm runway length with oversized slip plates and an open front and rear design for ease of access.
“As with all Rotary equipment,” says Cory “safety is a core consideration and the XA10 is equipped with rear chocks which automatically engage, a hydraulic levelling system and 18 automatic locking positions with pneumatic release.”
Cory’s team recommended the optional LED light strips, the non-slip FC5663Y work step and the EXRMP-XA10 approach ramp extension kit, which Justin agreed, were useful and safe additions.
“Precision Equipment went the extra mile to solve our dilemmas when it came to the selection of equipment which we specified had to be safe, reliable and efficient,” summarises Justin.
“In addition, we needed to have an equipment supplier able to provide excellent back up service and have good in-country representation. Precision Equipment delivered on all counts.”
