When in doubt, Scan it!

When in doubt, Scan it!

Workshop Equipment

When a professional automotive repairer has received a vehicle for servicing, repairs or it has  been involved in an accident, it has now become part of the repair procedure to perform both pre-repair and post-repair diagnostic scans to all the onboard computer modules to test for current diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and permanent data logged fault codes. These DTCs are generally stored in specific modules such as airbag modules, CAN bus gateway, body control modules, or powertrain control units etc. They can provide relevant safety and operational information and note failure of other critical components, such as various sensors, cameras, and radars, etc., used in the vehicle’s safety systems.  An important fact is that a great deal of DTC alerts may not always illuminate on the instrument panel or may even display one alert message and disappear. Many vehicle manufacturers have become aware that some drivers may get nervous or distracted by any lights or messages whilst driving and even when the vehicle goes into a limp mode the driver may not notice anything is wrong. Limp modes are an important way to limit potential expensive damage and can be a way to provide another layer of safety or emissions control to the vehicle. Some vehicle manufacturer’s programme faults that occur almost undetectable, which makes testing for diagnostic trouble codes important both before and after repairs are made, even if the servicing or repairs appear to be minor.

Professional automotive diagnostic scanning using the current version of software helps ensure accurate estimates before work commences, post-repair scanning also helps ensure that all systems are communicating and functioning as originally designed. The repairer now has greater confidence they have completed the repair thoroughly, resulting in the vehicle being restored to the condition as prior to the accident or fault occurrence. The scanning procedure should not be considered an option, but rather as an essential task both during the pre-repair and post-repair process.

Panelbeaters, dealerships, auto electricians, specialists and automotive workshops should consider upgrading or adding a comprehensive genuine diagnostic scanner. We have included specific software for the widest coverage of makes and models air conditioning systems, transmission, diesel systems, EV and more. Dealerships wanting to cover more makes have been included. Our Genuine Launch diagnostic equipment also have local software and various other specialist programs to assist specialists added.

Of high importance is all Launch scanners we sell are diagnostic scanners and not OBD code readers. Code readers will not tell you every triggered fault code and will not clear all limp modes. Diagnosing a vehicle using an OBD code reader on a vehicle for professional repair is like using a multimeter instead of a four channel Pico oscilloscope to diagnose an intermittent engine sensor glitch. We will only sell a code reader to professional workshops when they have agreed they understand what they are buying. Some Launch code readers can clear some service lights and carry out some relearns such as SAS, battery matching and DPF regenerations, but will have reduced specific makes and models and will be limited coverage. Some resellers will sell you anything, but we always ask the technical questions relevant to your needs, we will even point you in the right direction even if we do not sell it. We have over 30 years of hands on experience in the automotive trade and our professional series Launch scanners not only read direct module fault codes and clear, but reset service lights, code injectors, airbags, key reprogramming, throttle bodies, transmission adaptions, bi-directional testing which include advanced service procedures. We are only a phone call away and offer direct Launch factory service and repairs.
