Servicing

Modern safety systems in vehicles have become so integrated into the contemporary driver’s behaviour behind the wheel that driving without blind spot monitoring or parking sensors, just to name two examples, could make you feel exposed.

Safety systems that are standard in Toyota new vehicles via its Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) package, are involved in every part of the vehicles functionality – from Pre-Collision warning with Autonomous Emergency Braking to Dynamic Radar for Safer Cruise Control and Road Sign Assist which displays the current speed limit to the driver via a multi-information display or heads-up display.

All these systems use multiple sensors and advanced technology to operate. And, like any component of the vehicle they can get damaged in accidents or fail from time to time. It is essential that after they are replaced, they continue to work properly.

Part of the critical process when replacing TSS components is to ensure they are recalibrated after installation. If Toyota Safety Sense technology is not recalibrated, then the technology won’t work when you need them to. For example, Lane Assist may come on too early or too late or Radar Cruise Control may not work at all.

We recommend automotive repairers drop the vehicle into a Toyota Store after they have restored the vehicle to ensure the final, precise recalibration is done correctly. Our approved technicians at Toyota Stores can do all final checks and recalibration tests for vehicles with TSS. There is a fee for the service, which should be passed through to the vehicle owner.

All Toyota vehicles produced since 2018 have a version of TSS, which is also updated every year with new features or refinements, to protect New Zealand drivers and passengers. It is crucial to the safety of everyone on the road that TSS is always recalibrated when compromised.

By the way, even if you don’t use an original Toyota part for a repair to the TSS, the system will still need to be recalibrated. Of course, Toyota genuine parts are always best to use for repairing Toyota vehicles.

Toyota technicians at all Toyota Stores are available to assist with any queries.
