Controlling critical cost of ownership

Diesel Industry News

With many commercial vehicles running 24 hours a day seven days a week, and with costs rising, fleet operators and transport companies have turned to Schaeffler Automotive brands LuK, INA and FAG to keep their assets operating at full capacity and reduce their total cost of ownership (TCO).

Decisive factors determining whether a fleet operator can offer attractive services and operate a successful business are per-unit costs i.e. per kilometre, per hour, per ton and correspondingly attractive yet profitable rates.

Schaeffler is a preferred OE supplier to commercial vehicle manufacturers due to the highest quality standards and customised product innovations across brands LuK, INA and FAG brands, often as development partners with the vehicle manufacturer.

Using state-of-the-art production facilities and following strict zero-failure procedures Schaeffler products such as LuK clutches and power steering pumps, INA engine drive belt components and transmission bearings and FAG wheel and differential bearings have become the products of choice to keep fleets running to maximum efficiency with long service life.

The products are subjected to advanced comprehensive testing for different kinds of wear that can occur in the day-to-day use of heavy commercial vehicles with tests like clutch cover heat soak, durability, reliability, clutch double friction, double wear reserve, extended lifetime, while bearings suffer tests for bearing fatigue, grease testing, seal testing, rotating bending and brake hub tests to ensure their long service life.

To keep vehicles on the road and earning, Schaeffler Automotive Aftermarket supplies innovative high performance repair solutions that are designed to last and enable fast reliable service in the hands of the mechanic.

An example is the LuK RepSet SmarTAC, a self-adjusting clutch system that automatically compensates for facing wear. Each LuK RepSet consists of a clutch disc, clutch pressure plate and a conventional clutch release bearing all in OE quality and tuned to operate perfectly together.

Using predefined adjustment steps, this path controlled and constantly self-adjusting clutch system operates to precision and promotes a high gear shift control with no grinding or slippage.

In addition the TAC delivers a minimum wear reserve of 6mm meaning that the LuK RepSet SmartTAC will operate for around twice as long as a conventional clutch system.

As a leading supplier of roller bearings, Schaeffler Automotive Aftermarket offers commercial differential bearings in OE quality plus a full range of pinion bearings, crown wheel bearings and other differential components.
