Training in New Zealand’s automotive industry has taken a significant step forward with MITO’s release of a new training programme for light vehicle apprentices.

The training programme consists of new unit standards and offers apprentices a substantial training opportunity, enabling them to meet the complex challenges of servicing vehicles in today’s environment and to meet future needs, such as working safely on electric vehicles.

The programme includes a mix of workplace practical learning and eLearning which allows apprentices to complete theory elements of their programme in their own time and at their own pace. They will be able to access eLearning at any time and from any device – mobile phone, tablet or computer.

MITO chief executive Janet Lane says “We’re delighted to launch the new light vehicle training programme as part of our commitment to workforce development and the long-term future of the automotive industry. The programme is a result of substantial consultation with industry right across the country and we would like to thank all those that were involved in providing us with their expertise to ensure it meets the needs of the automotive industry.”

The training programme is open for new enrolments from those currently employed in the industry and who have an employer who is able to support their learning.
