With payload critical in the earthmoving industry, the Cat CT610 provides more than just fuel efficiency and light tare weight. It’s a smart business decision, according to CAT.
When Chris Bastow took over his family’s earthmoving business, its scale was small – just a couple of trucks. But by establishing long-term relationships with an array of customers, he built it into a fleet of more than 40 trucks, in addition to excavators and floats.
Now, Chris is looking to focus on a smaller, more reliable fleet. And he’s excited about the opportunity to move to Cat Trucks for that purpose.
“Our firm has a long history of working with Caterpillar, both machinery and motors,” Chris says. “But when Cat came out with on-road trucks, it opened up a whole new dimension.”
Bastow’s first Cat truck purchase is a Cat CT610 tipper. Chris foresees opportunities to use it with many of his clients in the road works, drainage and landscaping business.
“For me, the Cat brand stands for power, durability and reliability,” Chris says. “And I’m very comfortable with the service capability of our Cat dealer, Hastings Deering. I’ve had a relationship with their group manager, Geoff Short, for more than 20 years.”

Both the new Cat CT610 and Cat CT630, which are conventional prime movers, have been expressly designed and manufactured to meet the needs of Australian customers:
The Cat CT610 is powered by the 470-hp Cat C13 engine. With a bumper to back-of-cab (BBC) measurement of 2.72 metres, it is targeted for 19-metre applications and has a capacity of up to 57 tonnes.
The Cat CT630 is powered by the 550-hp Cat C15 engine. With a BBC measurement of 3.10 metres, it is suitable for B-double on-highway road-train applications and is available in both 72-tonne and 90-tonne options.
