Cool-Safe: Easy Refrigerant Recovery for NZ Automotive Workshops

News

Why Refrigerant Recovery Matters

Releasing refrigerant gas into the atmosphere is illegal in New Zealand – and harmful to the environment. But for many automotive workshops, doing the right thing can feel expensive; recovery units, cylinders, and qualified staff all add up.

That’s where Cool-Safe comes in. We’re Aotearoa New Zealand’s only environmental trust  dedicated to collecting and destroying harmful refrigerant gases – and paying you for doing the right thing. Since launching, we’ve paid out over $6.5 million to New Zealand  businesses for end-of-life refrigerant. Every kilo recovered matters, matters to your business, our environment and the economy.

How Cool-Safe Makes Recovery Easy

  • Loan cylinders for flammable and non-flammable refrigerants if you don’t have your own. Our new flammable cylinders are perfect for R1234YF.
  • If your cylinders are out of test date, simply order a Cool-Swap replacement online.
  • Once full, we’ll collect and return at no charge, simply order a Coolest Courier.
  • Even better – we’ll pay $40/kg for mixed or separated refrigerant. Turn old R134a, R1234YF, or even that dusty R12 into money that adds value to your business.

Training Matters – Are Your Techs Ready?

Summer is peak season for AC repairs. If your team handles refrigerant without specialist training, now is the time to act. Pending regulations will soon require evidence of trained skills to buy refrigerant gas. Invest in the right training now.

Special offer:
Every new Cool-Swap customer or Courier booking received by 31 January 2026 goes into the draw for a $150 training voucher – supplier of your choice.
