It is well known to owners of Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series vehicles that the OE handbrake on these models is insufficient and prone to failure, causing slipping and dangerous rollaway events.
To combat this, Terrain Tamer have developed the Electronic Secondary Park Brake (ESPB) kit, a secondary inclusion designed to support the vehicles primary OE handbrake rather than replace it. The kit includes calipers, wiring, controller, control switch and all accessories required for fitting, and is compatible with OE size pads and rotors, without the need to replace these parts.
Once fitted, the Electronic Secondary Park Brake utilises an in-dash switch for easy activation, and utilizes the hand brake warning light on the dashboard when engaged. The kit also features auto safe engagement, causing automatic activation when the vehicles ignition is cycled to off, in order to prevent potential roll-away.
The ESPB kit is compatible with upgraded larger front brakes but is vehicle specific and will not fit other applications. It features plug and play installation, requires an approximate three-hour fitting time, and does not require ADR engineering compliance.
The Terrain Tamer ESPB Kit comes with a twoyear or 40,000km warranty, and a repair kit and spare parts are in development and will be available soon.
The kit is the latest in Terrain Tamer’s growing Brake Range, which has recently seen several additions, including front “big brake” upgrades, rear disc conversions and the Terrain Tamer Fortified Brake Kits, made up of their most high-performance parts to improve braking in 4WDs operating in heavy duty conditions.
The kits come with a Terrain Tamer Heavy Duty Brake Booster, which has been designed and engineered in Australia as an easy to fit, bolt-in replacement for the vehicle’s original booster, and feature a dual diaphragm design.
This design effectively doubles the diaphragm surface area, acting to reduce pedal effort and improve both the stopping power and the braking feel, without significantly increasing the overall size of the booster itself. Essential for 4WDs that are towing or carrying heavy loads, Terrain Tamer’s Heavy Duty Brake Booster has been found to improve braking performance by up to 30 percent in both ABS and non-ABS models.
As well as the Brake Booster, the kits include a Terrain Tamer Braded Brake Hose Kit, front and rear Terrain Tamer High Performance slotted and dimpled rotors, and front and rear Terrain Tamer Fortified Brake Pads.
Made in Thailand from a copper free ceramic formulation, the Fortified Brake Pads hold E1 Euro Certification and are made with exclusive Terrain Tamer tooling. They feature a red coating to assist with the bedding in process and are designed for vehicles placing their brake system under significant pressure, such as those with a GVM upgrade or carrying significant loads.
While they can be used in everyday applications, the benefits of Terrain Tamer Fortified Brake Pads are most apparent in extreme braking event, such as long downhill durations, when the pad will hold its braking integrity. Benefits also include reduced dust and improved wear resistance and braking capacity, both beyond industry standard and surpassing their OE equivalent.
All parts are also available individually, for a growing range of vehicles.
