Holden has marked the 65th birthday of the brand in New Zealand with a world-first, becoming the first automotive marque to stage an event at Chatham Island.

“It is claimed the Chatham Islands rose from the sea 65-million years ago, so there is a great synergy with 2019 being the year Holden celebrates its 65th anniversary in New Zealand,” said managing director, Marc Ebolo.

“We had a strong desire to make a real statement to mark this milestone so decided to venture where no other automotive brand has ever been before and sent a fleet of five new SUV models to Chatham Island.

“By visiting this far-flung outcrop of New Zealand, it reaffirms our commitment to all Kiwis that Holden is very much here to stay and is an important part of the landscape. It also allows us to showcase our impressive new portfolio in an equally as impressive environment.”

The decision to feature a fleet of SUV models is representative of the direction Holden is heading as the brand embarks on the next 65 years.

“The past decade seen a huge shift in buyer preference from passenger cars to multi-use Sport Utility Vehicles,” said Marc.

“In the past two and a half years, Holden has introduced four brand new SUV nameplates into our range with Trax being joined by Trailblazer, Equinox, Tourer and Acadia, which means there is now a model to fulfill every requirement in every SUV segment.”

To coincide with the anniversary, and to link with the upcoming National Agricultural Fieldays at Mystery Creek, Holden has released an impressive array of SUV specials.

“Like venturing to the Chatham Islands, we’re making a big, bold statement in terms of some incredibly competitive pricing for new SUV models,” said Mr Ebolo.

The specials are available for May and June only and include a saving of $6,000 on Equinox LS, $7,000 reduction on a Trax LS, $6,000 off a Tourer through to a massive $13,000 saving on the Trailblazer LTZ.

“All of the SUV models offer their own special set of characteristics, ranging from the small and nimble Trax, powerful turbo-charged Equinox, the Trailblazer with impressive tow capability, all-wheel drive Tourer and seven-seat, executive-styled Acadia,” said Mr Ebolo.

“This year might be Holden New Zealand’s 65th Anniversary, but it’s also the start of a fresh, new and exciting chapter for the brand.”
