The valvoline story

News

Valvoline has been dedicated to the development of quality, innovative and high-performance lubricant products for more than 150 years – longer than any other oil company. In fact, Valvoline is the oldest Lubricant trademark in the petroleum industry.

The story of Valvoline began in 1866 when Dr John Ellis developed the world’s first petroleum-based lubricant for steam engines. The excellent lubricating properties of this product gained a quick reputation, and Ellis’s oil was soon being used in steam engines across the United States. A short time later, Ellis trademarked the Valvoline name.

As word of Valvoline’s quality products grew, so too did its demand in countries outside of the US. The first Valvoline oil came to the pacific in 1901 in wooden barrels, and the brand quickly became a staple in engines and culture. Regional blending and packaging of Valvoline lubricants began in 1964 when a facility was opened in Sydney Australia. Today more than 90 percent of Valvoline New Zealand products are blended and produced at this facility providing the market specifically formulated product suitable for the local market as well as timely product availability for the two company owned New Zealand warehouses.

Endorsing ‘Hands on Expertise’ as a leading distributor and producer of quality automotive and heavy-duty products and services. Valvoline market a comprehensive range of technologically advanced oils and lubricants specifically formulated to suit a wide spectrum of applications including automotive, on road transport, industrial and construction sectors within New Zealand and more than 140 countries globally.
