Toyota recently announced full details of its TRD86 Special Edition. The Toyota racing development (TRD) package is now available on both grades of Toyota 86.

Toyota New Zealand General Manager of Product Planning, Neeraj Lala said, “We’ve had a lot of interest in the TRD86 since announcing our plans back in June. Based on demand, we’re excited to announce that the TRD package will be available for the GT86 as well as the standard 86 model,” says Toyota product planning general manager Neeraj Lala.

Only 20 examples of the TRD model will be created initially, with customers able to choose their preferred vehicle grade, transmission and colour before the vehicle is built to order by Toyota trained engineers at our Thames Vehicle Operations Centre, the home of 86 customisation.
“We’re building this car for diehard sports car fans and race enthusiasts. It’s a car that you can could up and take straight to the race track. It’s got top-of-the-line components from TRD, including a TRD brake package by Brembo, to showcase the best bolt on equipment developed for the 86,” says Mr Lala.
“Our dealers have started taking orders for the TRD86, and we’re confident that all 20 will be on the road very soon.
“We know that some enthusiasts will want to drive their 86 stock standard before starting their own customisation project. We’re looking forward to supporting these customers with a great range of accessories and customisation ideas. For customers who don’t want to wait, the TRD86 is a great solution. It’s a competitively priced package with all of the labour and certification costs built in.”

The TRD86 has a Toyota racing development front spoiler, side skirts, rear lower bumper and boot spoilers, forged aluminium 18 inch alloy wheels, a high response muffler with four tip exhaust and TRD brake package by Brembo. A TRD badge, TRD sports air filter, TRD key ring, TRD radiator and oil filler caps are also included, as is a red TRD push start button for vehicles based on the GT86 grade.

All TRD86 are individually numbered and are supplied with a certificate of authenticity signed by Toyota New Zealand CEO Alistair Davis. Low Volume Vehicle (LVV) certification is required, and will be arranged by Toyota New Zealand prior to delivery.

The Special Edition TRD86 as a recommended retail price of $63,486 for the manual version and $64,486 for the automatic. TRD versions built off the GT86 are priced at $68,486 and $69,486 for the manual and automatic models respectively.
