A story of passion, fortitude and life at full throttle

Grant Baker’s life is fuelled by ambition, a passion for cars, and an ability to never give up in pursuit of success.
Baker shares his stories of business successes, set-backs and learnings – as well many cars of his which have fuelled, and sometimes funded, the next business venture – in his memoir No Pit Stops, available in paperback nationwide from 20 May 2026.
He sees the book as being of interest to those wanting to get ahead, as well as those who like cars.
A serial entrepreneur with a string of success stories, from 42 Below vodka to Trilogy International and Turners Automotive Group, Baker is also well-known for his love of fine motor vehicles and currently enjoys collecting Ferraris.
Baker says the first spark for the book came from a talk he gave to a group of entrepreneurs.
“Many of them came up to me and said that the stories I’d shared were interesting,” explained Baker. “So many of them told me, ‘you should write a book!’”
“It felt like a gargantuan task. I wondered how on earth I would encapsulate all of it. What would people find interesting? Would they even think it was interesting? Obviously I’m getting older and the runway ahead is now shorter, so I think it’s natural to start and reminiscing.
A large part of Baker’s motivation for the book – and his primary audience – are his three children. “They are the people who I would most like to read it. They were obviously there when some of these stories unfolded, but they won’t have known even half of what was going on. I get to reintroduce them to these stories as adults”.
Baker wants people to have a sense of what can be done if they approach things in the right way.
“The attitude it takes. It’s about being positive, looking forward for possibilities and opportunities, and being ambitious. Amidst a lot of negativity, it’s intended as a positive story of trying hard. Failing and trying again. And how good things can come when you keep going.”
More than a story of business success, No Pit Stops is a portrait of a man powered by passion, fortitude, and a love for living life at full throttle. Full to the brim with humour, grit and wisdom, this fast-paced read is for anyone who’s dared to dream big, to zig when others have zagged, and simply wondered, what’s next? With 196 pages plus a 16-page photo insert, No Pit Stops is published by Mary Egan Publishing and distributed by BookReps NZ.
