MITO – Te Pūkenga launches three level 5 automotive programmes

Developed in consultation with industry, the New Zealand Certificate in Light Automotive Engineering (Level 5), the New Zealand Certificate in Heavy Automotive Engineering (Level 5) and the New Zealand Certificate in Automotive Electrical Engineering (Level 5) will upskill technicians in these three automotive sectors to an advanced level.

“We’re incredibly proud to release this suite of Level 5 programmes,” says MITO - Te Pūkenga Manager Programmes Paul Neumann. “We have worked closely with industry to ensure each programme caters to the changing mechanical and technological needs of its respective sector.”

Each programme combines on-the-job learning and theoretical learning delivered by an e-learning platform. Using their mobile phone, tablet or PC, learners can access the learning materials and the assessments.

New Zealand Certificate in Light Automotive Engineering (Level 5)
Oversee team responsibilities and ensure compliance with legislative and company requirements to maintain a safe and effective light automotive engineering workplace.

Apply advanced technical skills and operational knowledge to diagnose complex system faults in mechanical and electronic light vehicle systems.

Determine repair solutions and monitor and control the repairs in mechanical and electronic light vehicle systems.

New Zealand Certificate in Heavy Automotive Engineering (Level 5)
• Oversee team responsibilities and ensure compliance with legislative and company requirements to maintain a safe and effective workplace.
• Apply advanced technical skills and operational knowledge to diagnose complex system faults in heavy vehicles or machines.
• Determine repair solutions and monitor and control the repairs of complex system faults on heavy vehicles or machines.
• Undertake cause and effect analyses for heavy vehicle or machine component metal fatigue failure.

New Zealand Certificate in Automotive Electrical Engineering (Level 5)
• Oversee team responsibilities and ensure compliance with legislative company requirements to maintain a safe and effective workplace.
• Apply advanced technical skills and operational knowledge to diagnose and repair complex faults in vehicle electrical and electronic systems including high voltage systems on vehicles or machines.
• Design, build, test and install complex electrical systems, including wiring diagrams that contain electronic devices.

Each Level 5 programme is expected to take 13 months to complete. To be eligible to enrol in these programmes, technicians must have completed the relevant Level 4 programme or be able to provide evidence of equivalent skills and knowledge, and have the ability to provide technical guidance to other automotive technicians within the workplace.
