Most people in the automotive industry have a love of things automotive and technical related and here at Motor Equipment News we are the same – unrepentant petrolheads from the age of 15 when we could drive (legally!).
There is a wide range of automotive-related YouTube channels so we thought we would highlight a few that we enjoy watching that you might as well, this is obviously not an exhaustive list. We will put one video from each channel in an article on our website so you can sample them.
Automotive repair
Four-cylinder Fords were our vehicle of choice back in the day – Cortina, Escort, etc. Barum Engines is an engine builder in UK who specialises in Ford Cosworth/Lotus/Cross Flow builds and machining although they do other engines as well. Check them out at https://www.youtube.com/@BarumEngines
Tanks
Another interest is WWII and especially tanks. Three interesting tank channels are The Tank Museum (Bovington UK) which we have visited https://www.youtube.com/@thetankmuseum, Aus Armour
(The Australian Armour & Artillery Museum)
https://www.youtube.com/@ausarmour and Mr Hewes, possibly our favourite – a UK farmer who got involved in fixing and restoring tanks – especially Cheftains, and from initially having no knowledge is now somewhat of an expert, but with a Kiwi-style No 8 wire mentality, most of the videos are focussed on fixing and troubleshooting. https://www.youtube.com/@MrHewes
F1
There are lots of F1 channels and with Liam Lawson currently competing there is more Kiwi interest. Two we especially like are LawVS – a bit off the wall – done by a British chap who films it from the top of the ladder into his attic, he has a great sense of humour, good knowledge and some great take-offs of some F1 personalities

NZ Motorsport
A recent find: SAMMIT – A NZ Drifter living in Japan https://www.youtube.com/@SAMMIT who just did a great video on Hughes Race Engines and The Roaring Season by well known writer Steve Holmes which looks at historic racing cars
