Mount Shop and United Oils have joined forces to bring racing fans an event that will go down in the annals of New Zealand drag racing history.
Competitors Anthony Marsh and Reece Fish will line up their top fuel dragsters, and battle to be the first team into New Zealand’s 300mph, 4 sec club!
The Mount Shop/Marsh Motorsport dragster driven by Anthony Marsh is an ex-Kalitta Racing top fuel car with an impressive list of features and specifications including:
• `08 Merv McKinney chassis.
• 500cu in (8.2L) Chrysler V8.
• 1471 Supercharger.
• 60psi Boost.
• 90 percent nitro-methane, 10 percent methanol.
• 42 fuel injectors.
• Billet block and heads.
• Dual 44amp MSD magentos.
• 16 spark plugs.
• Direct drive clutch cannon.
• 6 disc clutch.
• 12-1/2 inch Crown wheel.
• 3.20 diff ratio.
• Rear tyres 16”x17-½”x 36”.
• Front tyres 17”x 2-½”.
• 13-inch carbon rear brakes.
• Twin parachutes.
• Total weight 1,090kg.
With more than 5,884 kilowatts (8,000hp) and 13,150 Newton metres of torque on tap, the figures on this machine are mind blowing, and make the Bugatti Veyron feel as though it has the acceleration of a Toyota Corolla according to the team.
In kill mode (with all limits removed) the top fueler can exceed 10,000Hp.
The car can accelerate from zero to:
• 190kph – 1 sec.
• 340kph – 2 sec.
• 480kph – 3 sec.
• 530kph – 3.7 sec.
To achieve these numbers, there is a lot of pre-race preparation involved, as everything is mechanically adjusted and pre-set, the team must evaluate the track and weather conditions prior to the run, and make all the necessary changes before the car hits the track.
There are a total of three computers on board, one to control the fuel curve, the second controls the ignition curve and the third controls the clutch cannon. Once set, it is up to Anthony to control the wheel spin as he accelerates down the strip.
To see this machine in action fans need to be at the Fram Autolite Dragway on January 11, 2014 to witness history in the making.
