So does Alltech Diesel and Turbocharger
Most in the NZ4WD community will, at the very least have heard of Alltech Diesel and Turbocharger and some may well have been customers of the performance specialist based in Glenfield.
Headed up by Lance Anderson, who founded the company back in 1993 when turbochargers were still largely the stuff of American television action shows, Alltech was right there on the ground floor.
In just a little over 10 years, Alltech had established its credentials and the “little guys from Nu Zealand” began attracting attention from big name international players like Garrett Turbochargers, who appointed Alltech as its distributor in 2006.
Seven years later Honeywell Garret recognised Alltech as Distributor of the Year for 2014.
After this, the recognition and awards just kept coming with Alltech appointed and recognised as a sole distributor for BorgWarner, Holset Cummins Turbochargers, IHI and MHI turbochargers; all of which means Alltech covers pretty much all the bases as far as turbochargers are concerned.
But there are two parts to the company; turbochargers and diesel parts. Like what happened with the turbocharger side of the business, Alltech’s expertise in the supply of diesel parts saw the company recognised by international automotive giant Bosch, who made Alltech an official distributor in 2015.
From what had been learned in the business of becoming experts in turbocharger technology, Alltech dove into diesels and in just over a year this time, Alltech rang the bell of the big names in diesels – Bosch and Zexel – who recognised an excellent distributor when they saw one and selected Alltech as a parts distributor.
That’s almost the entire story to bring you up to date with the credentials of Alltech Diesel and Turbocharger, except to put some personal credentials forward on behalf of the team.
As well as having New Zealand’s largest stock of turbochargers and parts and a knowledgeable, enthusiastic team with a combined 120 years’ experience, Alltech’s team have a deep level of passion which provides the X-factor for the business.
Motorsport is the common thread among the team at Alltech, so when you read about the technical expertise available through Alltech, you know it’s all backed up with a passion for performance.
So, what’s new from the team at Alltech? Most recently, it’s an interesting combination of performance turbochargers from Garret.
The first of these is the G-Series range of race performance compact turbochargers which claim the latest innovations in turbocharger development and technology to blend efficiency and performance in a compact package.
Significant design elements of the G-Series turbochargers include:
• New compact bearing cartridge features ceramic ball bearings resulting in less heat transfer to the oil.
• Twin piston rings on both sides of the shaft combined with a new oil deflector to help reduce oil leakage from the centre housing to the compressor and turbine stage.
• A fully machine forged compressor wheel of lightweight CFD construction with improved aero flows up to 15-30 percent more air.
• Internally wastegated configurations, available for both standard and reverse rotation.
The G-Series turbochargers are designed for hard core competition and is described by Garrett as among the – if not the – most powerful small frame turbochargers on the market.
A G25-550 turbocharger for instance, is ideally matched to engines of 1.4 to 3 litre displacement and supports a target horsepower of anywhere between 300 to 550.
It’s bigger brother, the G25-660 can support a target horsepower of anywhere between 350 to 660 horsepower. And there is a comprehensive range of G-Series turbochargers all the way through to 3000hp!
But not everyone has a need for a compact ultra-high-performance turbocharger. The largest numbers of vehicles with turbochargers as standard equipment on our roads are utes, and for those users, Alltech Diesel and Turbocharger has you covered.
Alltech delivered the goods for upgrades to the PX1 Ford Ranger turbocharger (there is a PX2 upgrade to be released in the near future), which is great, but not everyone wants a Ford Ranger, and some prefer the ‘other’ brand.
Despite Holden’s demise, the 2.8 litre Colorado is still available and still out there in respectable numbers. Alltech reckons the Holden utes are a good solid truck, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be made better.
The fitting of a Garrett Powermax turbocharger over the induction system of the stock model will give a power increase from 147kw peak power to 160kW.
The Powermax is manufactured to comply with OEM installation specifications, and mirrors the OEM equipment in outline design, making it a simple, easy fit and the variable turbine geometry is also engineered to conform with OEM factory spec.
And Garrett’s secret to getting more potential power out of something so OEM compliant?
Well, there is proprietary aero design, which plays a part, but we can tell you the lightweight forged, fully machined compressor wheel is a key element of the increase in flow and performance.
From all of this, it’s easy to see Alltech Diesel and Turbochargers is well up to play with turbo and performance tech which appeals to the New Zealand user.
If your beast needs a bit of a boost or your workhorse needs a workup, maybe Alltech Diesel and Turbochargers should be your first port of call. Check them out at the www.turbo.co.nz website.
