Goodyear cuts costs

Diesel Industry News

Reducing cost per km is a key goal of transport operators, and Goodyear’s new Cargo Marathon 2 light commercial tyre is designed to help achieve that outcome.

With a new enhanced, long-wearing tread compound, the Cargo Marathon 2 sets itself apart from other tyres in the light truck segment by offering additional value to drivers and operators by increasing the mileage of the tyre.

“The lower the cost of ownership over a vehicle’s life, the more cash remains in the operators’ pocket,” said Bill Prebble, Goodyear New Zealand’s head of technical, product and aviation..

“With the Goodyear Cargo Marathon 2, we’ve increased the lifespan of the tyre without compromising on other performance characteristics by implementing an advanced new tread compound.

“In addition, the optimised tread pattern helps improve tyre wear by distributing “footprint” pressure more evenly under heavy loads.”

With safety always a key priority for Goodyear, silica has been incorporated into the tread compound to improve wet braking capabilities. Likewise, the addition of multifunctional blades and shoulder notches provides superior traction in wet conditions.

Complementing the Cargo Marathon 2 tyre’s impressive wear and safety credentials is its robust case construction, which provides extra protection against curbside damage. At the same time, the tyre is also designed to reduce noise emissions for a quieter and more comfortable ride.

“Providing quality tyres that our customers want and need is at the core of Goodyear’s business. That is why we constantly strive to improve our products through extensive customer feedback and ongoing research and development,” said Prebble.

“Through the years, Goodyear has introduced industry-leading tyre innovations for drivers across all market segments. With the launch of the Cargo Marathon 2 tyre, we are proud to build on this tradition with an expanded product line-up that caters to the needs of our New Zealand customers.”

The Cargo Marathon 2 tyre is available in 10 sizes in 15” and 16”. Key fitments include the Toyota HiAce, Hyundai iLoad, VW Transporter, Ford Transit and Toyota HiLux (4x2).
