Ed Speak: We’re all going on a summer holiday

Ed Speak

This issue has our annual pre-holiday servicing feature; it is a reminder to workshops that this is a time of year you can generate some extra business from your customers by helping them make sure that their vehicle is “Holiday Ready”. This can be a great marketing hook to either get customers in an extra time or possibly a free or specially priced add on when a vehicle is booked in over November and December. It can be styled as a pre-Holiday check or pre-holiday safety check.
As part of preparing the introduction article for the feature we did a quick web survey of what some repairers were offering, and many do have such checks in their “Menu of services”.
One good extra point we saw was also to consider a check on the boat trailer or caravan that has been sitting unused for the last six-months before the Kiwi – ‘She’ll be right’ jumps out and bites the customer in a soft spot when a wheel bearing fails or the trailer lights are blown and they get a ticket!
Apart from any income from the check itself, the visit to your premises might inspire the client to get some delayed repairs done or the check might highlight some recommended work that is needed.
Pre-holiday servicing checks are something that can be a win-win for both you and your client.
