No, we don’t mean the dolphin from the 70's TV show, we mean car flippers. It seems to be a USA term for people who buy and restore classic vehicles (mainly muscle cars) and then on-sell to buyers.
Some to do a great job, whilst others supply a vehicle that looks great from five metres away but hides many sins under a pretty paint finish and nice interior makeover.
We published our Let Us Entertain You article in the June issue about some favourite YouTube channels; well, we have recently watched some great flipping stories on two channels – Kiwi Classics and Customs (a US-based Kiwi car repairer) and Uncle Tony’s Garage (a Mopar and muscle car enthusiast who sometimes works with Kiwi).
One of the worst examples we saw was a Mustang Convertible (on the outside) which had been built from a coupe but had none of the original convertible chassis strengthening such as torque boxes and beefed-up rails added, turning it into a flexi-flyer. The door gaps changed as it went up on the hoist! Other examples were vehicles that looked wonderful but had bog repairs on rusted or bent chassis rails and other structural areas, often straight over untreated rust and some major mechanical disasters – all providing some great entertainment.
They both also do some interesting tech videos so maybe a couple more options to subscribe to on YouTube for your entertainment.
