LuK is part of a division of Schaeffler Group Automotive and was founded in 1965 as a clutch manufacturer. Today, all major vehicle manufacturers rely on the technical know-how and the quality provided by this German automotive specialist. The LuK Group produces over 14 million clutches annually for cars, pickups, trucks and tractors. Every fourth car that comes off a production line anywhere in the world is fitted with a LuK clutch. LuK is the OE market leader in Europe, North and South America and Australasia supplying their products to Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Hyundai, Kia, Isuzu, Suzuki and others. At present, the LuK product range for the automotive aftermarket comprises clutches and clutch repair components - under the brand name RepSet and RepSet Pro - as well as dual mass flywheels, power steering pumps and vacuum pumps. LuK RepSet – the efficient replacement option A RepSet comprises a clutch disc, a clutch pressure plate and a release bearing. Together these components represent a comprehensive package with all parts required for clutch repair, ensuring that the repair will be complete. The LuK RepSet is available for passenger cars and commercial vehicles. The philosophy behind RepSet is an all-in-one box. Customers only have to order the RepSet, and they get all they need for professional clutch repair. Because all the required replacement parts are available in one set, customers save time and eliminate complications from separate orders for component parts. What is more important: LuK guarantees that all RepSet parts fit together perfectly. Since all parts are exchanged at one time the LuK RepSet maximises and standardises the quality and safety of repairs. Why a LuK RepSet? If only the worn clutch disc is replaced, the cost of parts may be less, but a second repair of the clutch may well be necessary. This occurs when the new clutch disc and the old clutch pressure plate have different settings which are not attuned to each other. The result is clutch slip or judder, as well as poor ride comfort. LuK RepSetPro – The Convenience Kit for Clutch Repair The RepSetPro, unlike the RepSet, contains a hydraulic concentric slave cylinder (CSC). Thus, the RepSetPro provides all parts required for the replacement of a clutch actuated via CSC. The CSC should always be replaced when the clutch is replaced, since the service lifes of all components of the clutch system are matched to each other. A CSC can fail just a few thousand miles after the clutch has been replaced. Using the repair kit RepSetPro helps to avoid this unpleasant situation by providing all required components in one package. Handling and service A clutch should be treated with the utmost care. Though it is able to transmit high engine torques, it can also be easily damaged by incorrect handling. Dropping a clutch disc may distort it, as a result of which the function of the clutch and the ride comfort is impaired. An incorrect bolting sequence when attaching the clutch pressure plate will distort the clutch cover. As a consequence, the clutch will no longer clear properly. This may also result in damage to the transmission. Worn diaphragm spring fingers Cause: • Release bearing seized • Faulty release bearing • Incorrectly adjusted release system Remedy: • Adjust clutch play • Check release system • Replace clutch cover Tangential strap bent Cause: • Play in the drive train • Incorrect driving practice • Tow starting in 1st or 2nd gear • Incorrect storage • Dropping the clutch prior to fitting • Clutch not bolted up evenly and sequentially Remedy: • Check drive train • Pay attention to the manufacturers instructions • Replace clutch Burnt Facing Cause: • Oil contaminated facings/faulty oil seals • Release system seized or faulty • If the flywheel has been refaced, the pot depth was not considered or the bolting surface not machined by the same amount Remedy: • Check/replace engine and gear box rotary shaft seal • Check release system • Re-machine flywheel (pay attention to depth) • Replace DMF and clutch Overheating of pressure plate Cause: • Oil on the facings/faulty oil seals (reduced coefficient of friction) • Insufficient release bearing clearance • Damaged release system (cable or hydraulic) • Incorrect driving practice • Allowing the clutch to slip for too long Remedy: • Check/replace engine and gear box rotary shaft seal • Adjust clutch play • Replace clutch • Check release system
